International Overdose Awareness Day

International Overdose Awareness Day, observed annually on August 31, is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives to overdose, supporting grieving families and communities, reducing stigma surrounding substance use disorders, and promoting overdose prevention. The campaign encourages awareness of the signs of an opioid overdose, including unresponsiveness, slowed or stopped breathing, and pinpoint pupils, and emphasizes the importance of taking immediate action by calling 911, administering naloxone (Narcan®) when available, and staying with the individual until help arrives. Together, we can help save lives through education, prevention, and community support.
