Prevention Education and Awareness

The Prevention Education and Awareness program increases community knowledge about overall wellness, alcohol, tobacco, and drug use and abuse.

This program provides education, technical assistance, and community support with an information resource center and community health fair participation to assist individuals, neighborhoods, and all community members in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties. As it is vital for communities to stay informed on the latest information and trends, presentation topics include information on drug trends, marijuana, prescription drugs, the dangers of underage alcohol use, bullying, and internet safety.

For more information or to schedule a presentation for your workplace or organization, contact Denise Manassa at dmanassa@cdac.info or 850-434-2724.

Parenting for Prevention

Parenting comes with its unique challenges accompanied with enjoyable moments. As no two families are alike, CDAC has several programs that are designed to help parents with their specific needs. These free, evidence-based parenting programs address these specific needs based on the ages of their children, and are provided on an individual and group basis:

Active Parenting: This program is designed for families struggling with adolescents ages 9 to 15. Parents learn about issues facing today’s youth and are provided with the tools and resources to approach teens about these challenges.

The Incredible Years: This program is for parents of children ages 2 to 8. Combining information with hands-on experiences, parents learn how child-led play, specific praise, setting appropriate limits with rules and routines, and appropriate discipline strategies can provide a strong foundation in a young child’s life, allowing them to establish behavior patterns early on.

The Incredible Years Baby: This is a program for parents of infants ages 0-12 months. The baby should accompany the parent to the group.

The Nurturing Program: This is designed for families in substance abuse treatment and recovery facilities.
